How to Uncover Your Competitors From Their Own Pages

Before a pricing change or a launch, most teams size up competitors the same way: a few open tabs, a quick skim, and a gut feeling.

The details that matter, like what each one charges, who it is for and what it promises, stay in someone’s head.

The Rival puts them on paper. You give it links to up to five public competitor pages, such as a home page or a pricing page. You can tick the parts you care about most (pricing, positioning, SEO or content strategy) and paste in review excerpts from sites like G2 or Capterra.

Three steps

  1. Profiles: it reads each page and builds a profile of how the competitor positions itself, what it charges, its features, strengths, weaknesses and messaging, with the sources it used.
  2. Comparison: you describe your own product in a few sentences, and The Rival puts you beside the competitors in one table: target customer, pricing, core features and more.
  3. Predictions: what each competitor is likely to do next. Each prediction comes with a likelihood, the signal it is based on, a timeframe and a suggested response for you.

You can also export everything as a file for The Scope, so your competitor research feeds your customer research.

What it looks like

We described a small software product and gave The Rival the pricing pages of three comparable solutions.

Each page came straight from that solution’s own website.

In about a minute it returned three profiles and a side-by-side comparison.

It also suggested a next move for each competitor, with a recommended response.

The Rival only works from the pages you give it. Predictions are a first pass to start a conversation, not a forecast. It does not search the web. Check each point against what you know before you act on it.

If you have a pricing change or a launch coming up, read the competition properly first.
