This policy explains what information Backshack.ai (“Backshack”, “we”, “us”) collects when you use backshack.ai and our tools, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact us at info@backshack.ai.

Who we are

Backshack.ai provides AI-powered business tools, such as estimating, project planning, invoice reconciliation, governance and strategy tools (in addition to others), through our website.

Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account we collect your name, email address and password. If you sign in with Google, we use your email address and your Google account ID to match you to your existing Backshack account. We do not receive your Google password.

Waitlist and contact forms. When you join the waitlist or contact us, we collect the details you enter (such as your name, email address and company) and information about how you found us (for example, the campaign link you followed).

Content you give our tools. Our tools work with the information you enter or upload, such as text, spreadsheets, documents, scanned files and photos. We store this content in a database for your account (that only you have access to) so you can come back to your work.

Support requests. If you open a support ticket, we keep the messages and any attachments you send.

Feature Democracy. If you submit or vote on feature ideas, we keep your submissions and votes linked to your account.

Payments. Payments are processed by Square. We do not store your full card number. We keep a record of your purchases and subscription status.

Usage information. We record how our tools are used (for example, which tool was used and how much AI processing a request needed) so we can run, price, and improve the service.

Spam protection. Our forms use hCaptcha to tell people from automated spam. hCaptcha receives information such as your IP address and browser details to do this, under its own privacy policy.

Website analytics. We use Umami, a privacy-focused analytics tool that we host ourselves, to count visits and see which pages are popular. It does not use cookies and does not track you across other websites.

Cookies

We use cookies needed to run the site, such as keeping you signed in and remembering your session. hCaptcha may also set a cookie as part of its spam check. We do not use advertising cookies.

How we use your information

We use your information to:

• provide, maintain and improve our tools and website
• create and manage your account and give you access to what you have purchased
• process payments
• respond to support requests and send you service emails (such as a welcome email, account notices and updates about your subscription)
• understand how the site and tools are used
• keep the service secure and prevent misuse

We don’t sell your information

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone, and we do not share it for advertising.

AI processing

To produce results, our tools send the content you provide to third-party AI providers: currently OpenAI, Google (Gemini) and Groq. We use these providers only to produce your results, not for advertising or to sell your data. They process the content to return a result to us and may keep it for a short time (for example, OpenAI keeps API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring). Under our paid business API terms, they do not use your content to train or improve their models. Their use of that data is also governed by their own terms and policies for business API customers.

Who we share information with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Backshack, and only as needed for them to do so:

• AI providers: OpenAI, Google and Groq, as described above.
• Payments: Square.
• Hosting: the companies that host our servers (Hostinger)
• Sign-in: Google, if you choose Google sign-in.
• Spam protection: hCaptcha.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety or property of Backshack, our users or others.

Google user data

If you sign in with Google, we use only your email address and your Google account ID, and only to match and sign you in to your existing Backshack account. We do not use your Google data for any other purpose. Our use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Our social media pages

We have pages on LinkedIn, Bluesky, Threads, Instagram and YouTube. When you visit or interact with those pages, those sites’ own privacy policies apply.

How long we keep your information

We keep your account information and tool content for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must keep certain records (such as payment records) for legal or accounting reasons.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to access, correct, export or delete your personal information by contacting info@backshack.ai. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local law, and we will honor them.

Where your information is stored and how we protect it

Your information is stored on servers in the United States, provided by a professional server hosting company (Hostinger). Our service providers (such as our AI providers) may process information in other countries.

We follow industry best practices for data security, including industry-standard encryption of data sent to and from our site (HTTPS), server access limited to secure SSH connections over a private VPN, and keeping each customer’s tool data in its own separate database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

This site is not intended for use by children under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect information from or about children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
